My German isn’t very good, but I believe these are brass players from a radio orchestra in Germany. It’s an informal video, but the musicianship here is excellent.

Listening Questions:

  • What instruments are the trumpet players using?

The trumpets look different from the trumpets we use here in America. What is the main difference?

  • What key is this in?

Check it on your instrument if you need to. It’s good to use your ears for tasks other than just enjoying the music. Part of good analysis is figuring out the key. If you’ve never done that before, this is a good piece to get started with.

  • How would you describe the trumpet players’ embouchures?

These trumpet players have picture perfect embouchures. How would you describe their embouchures to someone who hasn’t seen the video?

Eddie Lewis posts these videos as listening assignments to his students. He often tells the students that “listening is more important than practicing”. To that end, he shares the videos so the students have something to inspire them to listen more often to professional trumpet players.

That said, if you are not one of Mr. Lewis’ students, we welcome you, too. The more the merrier! Welcome to EddieLewis.com. Feel free to post your comments and questions below.
