I have long been fascinated with non-standard jazz band instrumentations. Historically speaking, this trio is one of the earliest I’ve enjoyed with violin, clarinet and guitar. The clarinet player, by the way, Ernie Caceres, is the grandfather of my good friend, David Caceres. I’ve been working with David Caceres, in his band and with the Tom Borling BeBop Band since the early 90’s. He is easily the best jazz alto player in Houston.
Eddie Lewis posts these videos as listening assignments to his students. He often tells the students that “listening is more important than practicing”. To that end, he shares the videos so the students have something to inspire them to listen more often to professional trumpet players.
That said, if you are not one of Mr. Lewis’ students, we welcome you, too. The more the merrier! Welcome to EddieLewis.com. Feel free to post your comments and questions below.
