Free Trumpet Etude Download
Here is the link for the free download. We are offering a free funk etude for trumpet from a few years ago to students who are interested in using it as a pre-season warm-up before the Texas All-State Jazz etudes are released.
If you are not a Texas high school student, no problems, you can download the etude, too.

Free Funk Etude for Trumpet
The download, clickable on the button above, is for a pdf of a jazz etude I composed that was not accepted for the Texas All State Jazz etudes one year. Not wanting the etude to “go to waste”, I decided to post it here on my website.
This jazz etude is in the funk style. Technically, I guess that makes it a funk etude. Ha! A trumpet funk etude, or is it a funk trumpet etude?
I think maybe they didn’t like this etude because of the octave jumps at the end. In the last four bars there are three leaps from tuning C to high C. And since those octave jumps to high C are statements of the main theme, it wasn’t something that could be easily “fixed”.
And yes, sometimes they don’t like what I compose and give me an opportunity to fix the etude according to their requirements.
I can’t know why they rejected this etude, because they rejected it out of hand, no option to fix anything. I can only guess that it was the octave jumps.
