How lovely is it to listen to Clifford Brown on YouTube?!?! Wonderful!

I began listening to Clifford Brown in the early 80’s when I had a cassette tape of him with his band with Max Roach. I literally wore that tape out, playing it over and over again for years.

Clifford Brown is an important trumpet player in the jazz trumpet family tree. He is the first of what I call the “highly motivic” jazz musicians to play trumpet. As much as 90% of his improvisation was motivic, so that gives us a great example to use along side the recordings of Charlie Parker.
