Trumpet Listening Is More Important Than Practicing
As Mr. Lewis’ student, you’ve probably already heard him say that “trumpet listening is more important than practicing.” This page serves as a reference of resources to help you with your listening adventure.
While there is some benefit to listening to recordings of Eddie Lewis, we recommend that you listen to what we call in the music community “the greats”. You can listen to recordings and live concerts of Eddie Lewis to help you have a better understanding of his method, but your more beneficial listening will be when you listen to “the greats”.

How to Do Your Trumpet Listening
There are two types of listening you can do. The first is passive listening and a great majority of our listening time will be of this type. Passive listening is when you put music on in the background while you work at something else. A good example of this is when you listen while you do your home work or while you drive to your job.
The second type of listening is active listening. This is when you are doing nothing else and your full attention is focused on absorbing and analyzing the music. We do less of the active listening, simply because it’s so easy to do lots and lots of passive listening. But it is the active listening that can bring major changes to our playing.
